You don't necessarily have to have a background circle or rectangle. Just so long as the number is a contrasting colour. I ran BLACK numbers on a YELLOW car without any background other than the yellow of the car.

Aye, as Steve says, if the numbers are clear enough for the timekeeper then you're fine.

Cheers,

Eric :)

This is a local regulation for Doune not from the Blue Book, however in practical terms anything smaller would be very difficult for the timekeepers or officials to make out.

Just make sure it clearly identifiable and not "Hidden" amongst all the sponsors decals :)

Decent size numbers are available @ a decent price from www.hillclimbsupplies.co.uk. we have found they are great quality & they lasted us a full season double entering!

Numbers are available @ events but sometimes nearer the end of the season clubs run out so always best to have your own!

Doune specify numbers "....complying in all respects with the MSA Year Book definition of size etc. must be displayed on both sides and the front of each car...."

Refer to MSA Year Book Section (J) 4.1 [and Drawing No.4 on page 149]

And if you want them cheaper than hillclimb supplies, buy the same from ebay for a tenner less . . .

eg.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-9-RACING- ... 0972264195

loads of sellers, buy a pack of 100 and you will be sorted for a couple of seasons anyway . . .

Why is it that Doune require a number on the front? Is it a requirement of the British Rounds, or just a Doune specific quirk?

A lot of the marshall's posts look down on the cars.
In particular the post which radios in to release the next car.

Blue Book says:

"S9.2.5. Cars will be identified by means of a competition number, allocated by the organisers, which must be visible from each side of the vehicle and displayed on a contrasting background in a proper and durable way, acceptable to the Chief Timekeeper of
the day."

I've seen cars at events where the numbers are painted on the doors with something that can easily be cleaned off afterwards! Common practise among road cars is to print the numbers on white paper and sellotape to the inside of the rear side windows and yes, in Scotland the front number requirement is unique to Doune.
